Stop - Frame Animation.
My stop motion animation project involved me taking a sequence of scene related pictures in order to tell a story in a more involved fashion. For this project we were split into groups of two, and tasked with telling a narrative within this stop motion environment. The narrative we chose was to create sound out of instruments that would 'come to life' when their player had left the room, reminiscent of Toy Story. The reason behind this was to create a story in which the magic of the music was making all of the instruments play harmoniously together and for the audience, a single piece of music would be playing, all caused by the falling bouncy ball at the start of the clip.
We shot the sequence at a frame-rate of 24FPS, moving each subject slightly from frame to frame to give the impression to the audience of smooth movement of elements within the frame. Aswell as this, sound design was a large factor when creating this sequence. This is due to the fact that a simple single audio track cannot convey a sense of life towards the audience. This was done by syncing a prerecorded audio file to the events happening on screen. This involved having piano keys tapped when the ball fell on them during the track aswell as trumpet sounds playing during the appropriate scene.
We 'cheated' elements in the frame to photograph them in places we otherwise could not such as a heavy use of fishing wire. This allowed us to give the impression that assets such as the ball within the shot were either floating falling or rising etc...
