Our fourth session looked at interactivity and its uses as a storytelling device which is something that can be carried out through a range of methods

 Practical Exercise

During our lecture we looked specifically at its use through the software Isadora. The range of different systems that can be deployed through this method are large and allow for users to get many different results across a large number of use cases. During our session we used Isadora to create a scene that was interactable with our webcam. This would change the colour of a rendered flare based on our position of the frame, separated into 4 quadrants. As well as this, we also made a small script that would change the order of several clips played every time it was run, giving the impression to a viewer that every viewing was unique.

  Industry Uses

Interactive experiences are widely used in many industries from museums to theme parks, giving audiences immersive and oftentimes unique experiences to endure. This sentiment of individuality is especially highly prevalent in video games with releases such as Cyberpunk 2077 or Red Dead Redemption, having intricate branching narratives that give players different outcomes and a unique sequence of events each time they replay. This has also been used in other forms of media with Netflix’s ‘Bandersnatch’ being praised for its branching narrative implementation gaining high viewership due to viewers rewatching different storylines.
