The Joker | A Motion Typography.

The above video is a demonstration of my skills I have learnt in Adobe After Effects. Using keyframes, I made text & shape elements move throughout the screen. I did this by assigning position  and scale values at multiple timestamps. This allowed me to synchronise text movements and animation with the dialogue from the sound clip. The clip is from the 2008 Film 'The Dark Knight' directed by Christopher Nolan. Aswell as using keyframes, within After Effects, a virtual camera can also be applied of which a multitude of values can be edited such as shutter speed and depth of field. Using this within my project allowed me to blur elements aswell as move them all at a time by shifting the camera across the screen giving the composition a refined and yet realistic feel.

I picked the sound clip above as the dialogue can be sporadic at times, speeding up and slowing down at irregular intervals. I was also able to represent each of the characters effectively through the text that was shown. This was used carefully as the Joker's dialogue is constantly changing in style and font. This shows that his personality is somewhat unhinged and is hard to predict. Aswell as this, his dialogue is displayed against a black background showing the audience that he is the antagonist of this scene. This contrasts to the dialogue spoken by the protagonist, Commissioner Gordon, who's dialogue is always predictable, being shown in a constant font and is displayed against a white background indicating he is the protagonist as mentioned. This shows that he is a 'by the book' character, sticking to rules and protocols and being the opposite to the antagonist he is facing.

Below are some screenshots from After Effects showing off my timeline with all of its layers, keyframes & values...
